Welcome to Roast the Post. We’re genuinely glad you’re joining us on this crazy journey.
Jen and I started this show because we kept seeing the same thing over and over again: job ads that say way more than they intend to… and way less than they should. Bloated bullet points. Vague accountability. Unrealistic expectations. Corporate doublespeak trying to be award-winning poetry.
So we decided to do something about it, one job ad at a time.
Each episode, we take a real job posting and pull it apart… sometimes gently, sometimes not… so we can get at the story behind the bullet points. What does this role actually demand? What kind of organization sits behind it? And what might a candidate be signing up for without realizing it?
If you’re a job seeker, this is about learning how to read between the lines and go in with your eyes open. It will help you develop a sixth sense about what questions to ask during an interview to uncover hidden truths.
If you write job postings or design roles, this is about understanding how your words land, and how to do better. Think of it like an outside sounding board for how you represent the organization to the world.
The format is simple. We don’t prep extensively. One of us brings a post, the other reacts in real time, and we say the quiet parts out loud. No name-and-shame. No HR theatre. Just honest analysis, lived experience, and a bit of roasting when it’s earned.
You’ll also notice that we don’t always agree… and that’s intentional. Contrasting Jen’s experience in human resources with my entrepreneurial and leadership experience focused on building things is the point.
