TL;DR—we’re launching a new short format companion podcast for Roast the Post. 1 headline. 10 minutes of banter. 3 times a week.
Well hey there, subscribers, listeners, friends, and fellow humans!
First off, thanks for joining us on this crazy journey. Roast the Post Podcast was borne of very humble beginnings… an exchange on Substack Notes one day November 28, 2025, where Paul posted about a crazy idea for a segment on my podcast at the time and asked if anyone would dig it.
Paul never got the 50 hearts on the post (I mean, he’d been on Substack for about three months at that point)… but we did it anyway. Jen was curious enough to record a pilot that we sent out to people we knew for some feedback, and the response was enthusiastic enough that we decided to make a go of it.
41 weekly, 60 minute (ish) episodes later, here we are.
Where it Started
Episodes recorded on Google Meet and edited in iMovie.
1 or 2 views on YouTube for each episode.
Jen and I figuring it out as we went and trying things along the way… like livestream studio audiences, AMAs from the pub, special guest judges, and listener voting on the job ads and role design, just like we do on the show.
Where it is Today
Episodes recorded in Riverside Studio, remote and in-person on the occasion that we’re in the same city.
A hundred or so views on YouTube per episode and a couple thousand regular (ish) listeners on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and the fuzzier parts of the podcast ecosystem.
Really great, meaningful connections with folks on Substack, and regular episode recordings in our live studio audience with a few dozen folks who show up to hang out in the afternoon on a weekday when we hit the studio.
An eBook, with the intention to expand it into a full book, distilling our ideas into a practical playbook for people looking to champion positive change.
Where it’s Going
The gameplan? More of the good stuff.
We’ll be launching a new companion segment called Grounds for Discussion very soon. If you’re already subscribed to Roast the Post, you’ll start to see it on your playlist beginning October 26th.
1 newsworthy topic. 10 minutes of banter. 3 times a week.
At the same time, we’re going to scale back the classic 60-minute Roast the Post format to once a month. We’re taking this step so we can focus on episode quality, bring in great guests, and host fun, informative collabs with like-minded people who want to unf*ck the hiring process alongside us.
What else?
A new website, sometime towards the end of the year.
And… speaking engagements. We’ve been putting out feelers to take this show on the road. Keep your fingers crossed that we’ll have something exciting to announce on that front soon =)
What Else?
That’s it. That’s the update. We love you, and we’d love to hear what you think about the companion segment and anything else about the show that’s on your mind. Drop us a comment, DM, or Note.
Peace,
Paul Austin-Menear & Jennifer Houle
