For the Job Seekers

Did you come across a job ad like this? These questions might help you shed some light on what working there is really like:

  • How much of my personal brand will I truly own in this role?

  • What metrics define success here… subscriber counts, sales, or something else?

  • How will disputes (e.g., duplicate card claims) be handled in real time?

  • What’s the long-term growth path for a niche role like this?

  • How does compensation scale with audience size or revenue generated?

For the Job-Seeker Seekers

Are you writing a job ad for a similar role? Consider these hidden issues that might impact the success of your recruitment campaign:

  • Outcomes: Poorly defined IP ownership could lead to talent leaving with their audience, and unclear success metrics may result in high turnover or low motivation.

  • Fixes:

    • Clarify IP rights in contracts to protect both the company and the employee’s personal brand.

    • Define KPIs (e.g., audience growth, sales targets) to measure performance transparently.

    • Address logistical challenges (e.g., shipping disputes) with clear policies and tools.

    • Offer competitive, scalable compensation (e.g., revenue sharing) to retain top talent.

    • Specify whether the role is in-person, remote, or hybrid to set expectations.

The Verdict

Live Studio Audience (Average Score)

7.8 / 10 (Job Ad)
4.3 / 10 (Role Design)

Jennifer Houle

7 / 10 (Job Ad)
5 / 10 (Role Design)

I liked the job ad, personally. It was transparent, it was modern and reflected that this job is one borne of the digital economy. The role design was lacking though… and in fairness, this would be a tough role to design because success is so based on the personality of the person who gets the job. But they should have tried to put some structure to it.

Paul Austin-Menear

8 / 10 (Job Ad)
4 / 10 (Role Design)

The job ad was simple, clear, to the point. A few minor contradictions existed but they were mostly linked to the role design’s weaknesses… which were plentiful. The issue of intellectual property ownership in particular is going to be a challenge if this produces a home run of an IP property.
